All eyes will be on Golden Fish Ryan Pini as he takes on lane four in the 50m backstroke. Pini will be competing against second fastest Teiki Dupont of Tahiti who clocked in a time of 26:81 sec in the heats behind Pini’s 26:22 sec.New Caledonia pair Kevin Calmettes and Julien Goyetche will also be competing with Pini. Fiji duo William Clark and Gordon Thompson are also swimmers to watch out for. In the women 100m freestyle, Savannah Tkatchenko and Anna-Liza Mopio-Jane will be competing in the finals. PNG will also be hoping for gold from Sam Seghers who finished first in his heat in the men 200m freestyle. Britney Murray will be competing in the women 400m medley finals while Ashley Seeto and Ryan Maskelyne will be competing for a medal in the men 100m breaststroke. A large crowd is already here in gold, red and black ready to support our seven PNG swimmers.
A Co Donegal man has been appointed as the new director of one of Australia’s biggest art galleries.John Cunningham, left, has received a prestigious appointment.McClelland Sculpture Park and Gallery, has made well-known Ardara man John Cunningham its new director.Cunningham replaces outgoing director Robert Lindsay. Lindsay announced that he would be stepping down from the position in February.Cunningham brings a wealth of Australian and international experience to the role.At present, he is the director of the Warrnambool Art Gallery.John is well-known across Donegal where his previous roles include deputy director of the Regional Cultural Centre in Ireland and manager of the Letterkenny Arts Centre. He also has a keen interest in the intersection between art, science and locale.During his four-year tenure at Warrnambool, the gallery garnered its highest audience numbers, with a huge 73 per cent jump in visitors.
