Ace up the sleeveBafana’s head coach Gordon Igesund heaped praise on Platinum Stars midfielder Thuso Phala after the Norway match, saying he was an “ace up his sleeve”.Igesund said: “Just because he plays for a smaller team like Platinum Stars, and a lot of people don’t get to see him, doesn’t mean he is not a good player. He is quick and he is an out-and-out winger.”Bongani Khumalo, Bafana’s captain, said: “We will have to keep working hard, but there were lots of positives in this game (against Norway), like the way we moved the ball. We played a good brand of football, but maybe at times we should get uglier in the box and gamble. But these are the things we will work on.” Fans showing African spiritHundreds of fans gathered in Sandton on 9 January outside the Nelson Mandela Square in true African spirit, for the official 10-day countdown till the start of the tournament.“Go and do us proud. We release you to go and compete with the best in the world,” said Sport and Recreation Minister Fikile Mbalula, who asked South Africans to show the spirit of ubuntu to other soccer-lovers who will be visiting during Afcon. When South Africa last hosted the tournament in 1996 they triumphed, beating Tunisia 2-0 in the final at Ellis Park in Johannesburg. Their supporters are hoping for more of the same in 2013. Afcon groupsThere are four groups in the 22-day sporting event that will also see two South African referees – Daniel Bennett and Zakhele Siwela – officiating at some of the matches. The groups are:· Group A: South Africa; Cape Verde; Angola; Morocco.· Group B: Ghana; Mali; Niger; Democratic Republic of Congo.· Group C: Zambia; Nigeria; Burkina Faso; Ethiopia.· Group D: Tunisia; Algeria; Togo; Côte d’Ivoire. The National Stadium will host the opening and final matches, while the other matches will be played at Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit; Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth; Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg; and Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban. The Bafana squad is made up of:· Goalkeepers: Itumeleng Khune; Senzo Meyiwa; Wayne Sandilands.· Defenders: Bongani Khumalo; Siyabonga Sangweni; Thabo Nthethe; Anele Ngcongca; Siboniso Gaxa; Tshepo Masilela; Thabo Matlaba.· Midfielders: Kagisho Dikgacoi; Dean Furman; Reneilwe Letsholonyane; Oupa Manyisa; May Mahlangu; Thulani Serero; Lerato Chabangu; Thuso Phala; Siphiwe Tshabalala.· Strikers: Bernard Parker; Katlego Mphela; Tokelo Rantie; Lehlohonolo Majoro. After choosing the squad, Igesund said: “It’s very unfortunate that I could not have all the players in the squad as the Confederation of African Football rules stipulate that only 23 will be needed for the tournament.“No matter how much we try, we can’t please all the people in the selection process, but I believe we have chosen the best that will represent this country well in Afcon 2013.” Public viewing placesThe Gauteng provincial government has earmarked seven public viewing areas for fans to enjoy the tournament spectacle from. These are in Orange Farm in the south of Johannesburg; the informal settlement of Diepsloot near Fourways, north of the city; Ivory Park in Tembisa on the East Rand; Diepkloof in Soweto; Sedibeng in the Vaal, Tshwane and Merafong in the Carltonville area.MEC for sport, arts, culture and recreation Lebogang Maile told Sowetan: “The public viewing areas were a resounding success during the 2010 Fifa World Cup, which is why we have decided to bring them back for Afcon.”last_img read more

Ceres left with mountain to climb after away leg

But with the way the Tajik champions dominated the first leg, it seems the Busmen would need a miracle for that to happen. It was a tough reality check for the Busmen as they paid dearly for another sub-par away performance.Nazarov opened the scoring by converting a penalty in the 25th minute after Kota Kawase brought down Dimitri Barkov inside the area. Wait — no, I’m not. As much as I respect the original intent of the holiday (which became official back in 1894), to most of us, it’s just a bonus day off — one that’s blissfully tacked onto a weekend. So, yeah, stores; go ahead, run your sales. I’m listening. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Labor Day doesn’t bring out bargains to compete with the likes of Black Friday (which will be here before you know it), but there are definitely some sales worth your time. For example:We’ve rounded up the best Labor Day mattress deals. We’ve also gathered the best Labor Day laptop deals at Best Buy.The 2019 Vizio P Series Quantum is back under $999.Be sure to check out Amazon’s roughly three dozen Labor Day deals on TVs and audio. Porsche rolls out its own car insurance in Illinois and Oregon

Enlarge ImageIt’s fair to say that most insurers don’t really understand the enthusiast side of things, so this is a smart move on Porsche’s part. Andrew Krok/Roadshow Barring exceptions for antique vehicles and contraptions of that ilk (think Hagerty), car insurance is, for the most part, kind of a one-size-fits-all sort of industry. Creating insurance products tailored to specific brands hasn’t really been explored all that much, which is why Porsche has decided to take that route and offer its owners something unique and, above all, helpful.Porsche on Thursday announced that it is launching a mileage-based car insurance program. In its news release, Porsche said this insurance, offered in partnership with Mile Auto, “meets the unique needs of Porsche drivers by limiting costs to actual miles driven, plus a low base rate.” After all, not every Porsche owner is driving the industry average of 12,000 to 15,000 miles per year.Porsche’s car insurance will track the mileage of each vehicle in a ridiculously simple way: Just take a photo of the odometer and send it to Porsche. There’s no app or tracking device necessary, which Porsche says will be a benefit to an owner’s privacy. There are other benefits, too. Having Porsche’s own insurance means that repairs stemming from claims will always use genuine parts, because Porsche isn’t out to devalue its own cars. There’s also a dedicated claims concierge for when things go wrong. The automaker also offers agreed value coverage, which means Porsche will pay out an agreed-upon value for the car in the event of a total loss. That last bit is especially important for owners of older or collector cars.Porsche Auto Insurance will be offered to owners of 1981 models or newer, so long as the vehicles are housed in Illinois and Oregon. As time goes on, Porsche will expand its offering to include additional states, but it did not offer up a timeline for doing so. 2020 BMW M340i review: A dash of M makes everything bettercenter_img 0 Porsche Share your voice 2:13 More about 2018 Porsche 911 Turbo S 2019 Hyundai Elantra review: Staying relevant in a changing segment Tags Review • 2018 Porsche 911 Turbo S: One punch Now playing: Watch this:last_img read more

Roger Federer Rafael Nadal angry with Novak Djokovic Serb tries to calm

first_imgNovak Djokovic made light of a reported rift with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal on March 20 saying that he welcomes the decision taken by the two tennis legends regarding the ouster of ATP chairman Chris Kermode.Djokovic is the current president of the ATP player’s council and he was elected to the position ahead of the 2018 edition of the US Open. The Serb was one of those vociferously pushing for the ouster of Kermode who has been voted out of his role as chairman of the ATP and will leave chair at the end of this year. This move was supposedly made without consulting either Federer or Nadal and the Swiss was not too pleased about the situation.Federer had said that he was not “chasing” Djokovic for an explanation but at Indian Wells made no bones about how it was “hard to understand” why Djokovic turned down a request to discuss the situation. The world number 1, on his part, says that he welcomes the input of the Spaniard and Swiss legends. Nadal and Federer during Laver Cup Day 1 actionMICHAL CIZEK/AFP/Getty Images”We welcome them as well as anyone else who wants to join the political discussions,” Djokovic said ahead of the ATP Miami Open. “The player council is only part of the structure. We are not part of the board or deciding anything. We are in consultation and collaboration with player board representatives.”The Serb said that Nadal and Federer have long been icons of their sport and their opinions are of utmost importance to anyone related to tennis. “Federer and Nadal have been icons of our sport for so many years and their opinions are extremely important to everyone. If they want to be active and part of it, either officially or unofficially, I think it’s only positive for us.””I saw Roger today. We were cutting the ribbon at the opening of the center court. We had a small chat but there was no time to talk about the political stuff. Hopefully we will have time in the next few days to go through some things.”Nadal had earlier stated that a decision as big as the removal of the chairman should have been taken after consulting everyone. The Spaniard was obviously displeased that he was not contacted and could not voice his opinion on the matter. But Djokovic maintained that he has seen no change in the attitude towards him.”I have not noticed anything from their side or from mine,” Djokovic said. “It’s not necessary for people to create any tensions or divisions between us. On the contrary, I have a good relationship with both of them. We always respected each other. We are rivals of course so it’s hard to be friends. We need an open dialogue and for people to have different opinions. That’s what a democratic society is. We all try and be part of that.” Novak Djokovic felt let down by the ATP.Clive Brunskill/Getty ImagesThe Serb said that he, along with certain other players, had grown frustrated with the system which was constantly failing them and that prompted the change.”It’s frustrating for me personally and other players who have been part of the structure because it has failed us many times,” he said. “And many times when top players wanted to be involved and be heard they felt like everything they have said was not really followed through in a way it was supposed to be.” Close Australian Open 2019: Novak Djokovic Wins Final Over Rafael Nadallast_img read more

BuzzFeeds First Live Event Will Feature Lil Nas X JoJo Siwa Viral

first_imgBuzzFeed is going IRL by staging its first live event — a variety-style show in New York it’s billing as an in-real-life version of scrolling through your social feed.Headlining BuzzFeed’s Internet Live is a musical performance by Lil Nas X, whose chart-topping song “Old Town Road” has become a viral phenomenon, along with an appearance by JoJo Siwa, the 16-year-old YouTube and Nickelodeon star. The program’s lineup includes other influencers and BuzzFeed personalities, including Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, Deena Nicole Cortese and Angelina Pivarnick of MTV’s “Jersey Shore Family Vacation.”However, BuzzFeed isn’t going to make money directly from its inaugural Internet Live: It’s not charging for tickets and doesn’t have any sponsorship deals for the event. The invitation-only show will take place Thursday, July 25, at New York City’s Webster Hall. Down the road, BuzzFeed hopes to produce ticketed events and generate revenue from brand integrations in live shows. “We haven’t really dipped our toe into experiential touchpoints yet, and we thought the best way to do that would be to bring alive the best of the internet,” Kaufman said. For digital influencers, touring live shows have become bankable business extension. But it remains to be seen how big a draw BuzzFeed would be able to get for an IRL agglomeration of internet influencers and memes — the prospect of the internet coming to life in front of your eyes isn’t everyone’s idea of an entertaining night out.The move into live events for BuzzFeed comes as CEO Jonah Peretti has emphasized the need for the company to diversify revenue beyond advertising, coming after it laid off 15% of its workforce earlier in the year. For the show at Webster Hall next week, BuzzFeed is issuing invites to talent partners, influencers, employees and some advertising clients. It expects about 500 attendees. The event (featuring an open bar) will run for about an hour, from 8:30-9:30 p.m. on July 25.BuzzFeed isn’t planning to live-stream Internet Live. Rather, producers will edit the program down to a 20-30 minute video and distribute that across BuzzFeed channels on Aug. 4, along with breakout clips from the evening.Internet Live will encompass live interviews, interactive games and musical performances, with segments reflecting what’s trending online as well as tributes to nostalgic memes. In addition to Lil Nas X, JoJo Siwa and the “Jersey Shore” trio, BuzzFeed’s Internet Live is slated to include appearances by Donté Colley, the social-media star known for his dance videos; Daniel Lara and Josh Holzz, who popularized the “Damn Daniel” meme; 9-year-old Ava Ryan, who creates comedy sketches on her mother’s YouTube channel; Zoe Roth, aka “Disaster Girl”; teen climate activist Alexandria Villaseñor; broadway star Shoshana Bean; actor-comedian Jason Nash; BuzzFeed multiplayer gamer Kelsey Impicciche, and stand-up comedian and BuzzFeed producer Eric Tabach.
